Lally, I miss you.......

Lally was not feeling well today because she had a bad attack of diarrhoea. She was also not eating well. Lally was my cow that I had reared for four years. I was grateful to Lally as she had been a source of milk to my kids. The remote place where my husband was posted, we were not able to get milk easily and my kids were so fond of it. They did not like milk powder that was available for sale in the market. So we finally decided to have a cow of our own. The campus of our residence was quite big with ample of grass and fodder trees and an already constructed cowshed. The officer that lived before my husband also had kept a cow of his own perhaps for the same reasons.

I had telephoned my husband about Lally's problem, in the evening he came with medicines from veterinary dispensary that was situated about ten kilometers away from our place. I gave all the medicines as per instructions given by the veterinary compounder. After the medication, Lally looked relieved for few hours. I was happy to see my troubled cow in relief.

Next morning when I went to Lally's shed she was lying down and watery stools were shooting out with frank blood in it. It was kicking over her belly and seemed to be in intense pain.

I rushed to my husband to do something for Lally, I was so confused to see her in this condition.  He at once rushed in his car to the veterinary dispensary. I was desperately waiting for some veterinary help as Lally's condition was deteriorating. Now her tongue was also protruding and she was gasping.

I was praying for her relief and was trying to keep my hand on her head but she was too ill to recognise it. After about two hours my husband came back with the veterinary compounder. He thoroughly checked Lally and nodded his head to show that there was no hope.

Veterinary compounder arranged the intravenous fluid line and injections immediately but before the medication could drip in, Lally had gone, gone out of this world.

Lally I miss you....................
