Energy Crisis: Rising Problem
Energy is essential to carry out tasks. Today many sources of energy are available. But among them, solar energy is considered to be perennial source of energy. However coal, natural gas, nuclear fuels, petroleum products are used mainly and extensively. These are non-renewable i.e., cannot be recovered once used. Thus they are becoming extinct. They does not form quickly. They get accumulated in nature over a long time. Thus earth's energy resources are becoming empty. This fear has created energy crisis.
Energy crisis occurs when demand is more than supply. If living standard of a country is high, it's energy consumption will be higher. If living standard of a country is low, it's energy consumption will be lower. Energy supply must be sufficient to overcome the demand. When demand isn't met, it results in energy crisis. Energy consumption in the world is increasing day by day and sources are getting depleted every second.
Population explosion is the main reason for energy crisis. Increased population has led to increase in the number of vehicles. All of these vehicles need fuel. We are only using non-renewable sources of energy. Renewable sources are totally left unused. There are very few people who are aware of bringing renewable resources into use.
Energy crisis has also resulted not only because we are using energy in more amount but also because we are wasting it unknowingly or deliberately. By taking care of certain things we can stop this wastage of energy like fuel tank of an engine should be regularly checked for any leakage. This will help in the saving of oil. Engines should be shut down when not in use. This is the blunder which we all do and do it repeatedly. Servicing of vehicles or other machines is very essential. By this, If engine is defective or there is leakage it will be taken care of as well as their oiling would be done properly. Conditions of roads are becoming worst from bad. This will increase consumption of energy by vehicles.
People waste electrical energy to a greater extent. They do no cultivate the good habits of switching off lights, fans and other devices when not in use or when leaving the room. In public places, this waste of electric power can be commonly seen and no body really care about it. They even do not turn off tap and let the water flow easily. Even in homes and places of work, people use more water then what is required. Apart from this, they spend drinking water for other purposes like washing, watering for plants and for various purposes. They are unaware of the fact that lots of energy is required for the purification of drinking water. Ladies in kitchen do not believe in saving energy at all. If they wish can save it by cooking food in cookers or covered utensils. The water used for washing vegetables and fruits instead of being thrown can be used for watering the plants. Heating facilities at home are very inappropriate and again lots of energy get wasted.
We can correct this energy crisis by saving energy and by promoting use of renewable sources instead of non-renewable sources of energy. First and foremost, population growth has to be checked. Increase in population increases the consumption of energy. Awareness should be brought among people to save fuel. Engine servicing should be done periodically. Engines with higher efficiency can save lots of fuel. Government has to take care of it. Taps should be checked of any leakages. We must stop our habits of leaving taps open and using more water than required. Drinking water should be used only for drinking purposes and not for other purposes. Devices like television, lights, fans and others should be switched off whenever not required. Use of fluorescent tube lights are more efficient when compared to bulbs. These lights help to save energy and are cost effective too. Public places should be taken care of any wastage that may be leaking of taps or unused electric power. Cooking practices should be improved. This can be done by using cookers and stoves which are efficient enough. Public transport system should be efficient and comfortable.
Renewable sources of energy should be used especially solar energy. People should be educated to set up and use solar heaters, solar cookers and solar generators. Gobar gas plant should be set up. Animal dung is used as a source of fuel in this plant. It is a bio waste material. This must be promoted and used on a larger scale.
In this way by using renewable sources of energy to a larger extent and carefully using the energy provided to us, we can make correct use of energy. This will help us to overcome problem of energy crisis.
