A good way to see birds is to feed them in your own garden. Birds will come near you if you place food for them and provide simple nesting boxes. You can also make a bird table.

You can watch birds’ buildings their nests and feeding their young ones, but you must take care to keep still and not go too near them. If they feel disturbed, they will leave the nest and go to a safer place, where you won’t be able to see them. Never try to take a baby from its nest. Baby birds are very delicate and they can be injured easily.

If you want to watch the birds eat, you can scatter some grain in our garden. Hide yourself and be still. A little sparrow is sure to come hopping along. While approaching the food, it will cock its head first to one side and then to the other o make sure there are no enemies hiding around.

How bout making a bird table?

You can make a bird table with a piece of square plywood, four long strips of soft wood (to be glued to the four sides of the plywood), four screw –eyes and a sufficiently long string to hang the bird table.

Make sure the table is quite high so hat cats cannot get to it.

Suitable food for the birds is apples, crushed breakfast cereals, sunflower seeds, cooked potatoes and unsalted peanuts.

Watching birds

I and he sat on our favorite ox and watched a pair of sarus –cranes prancing and capering around each other: tall, stork like birds with naked red head and long red legs. They are always very devoted companions, and it is said that if a sarus is killed, its mate will haunt the scene for weeks, calling sadly and some times pining away and dying of grief. They are held in great affection by the people, and when caught young make excellent pets. Though a old man did not keep sarus –crane, he said hey were as good as watch –dogs, giving loud trumpet-like calls when they were disturbed.
