Indian Cricket is on an all time high thse days.  The players are on a high especially giving individual performances of the highest quality. Actually it is very difficult to pick who is the best batsman among Indians in the last one year of so.  With players performing exceptionally well giving brilliant individual performances the team too has benefited.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is No.1 ODI batsman in the world:- Mahendra Singh Dhoni has attained a level of consistency in batting which is amazing to the say the least, atleast by Indian standards.  It has become almost impossible for any bowler in the world to dismiss M S Dhoni.  The Indian skipper has never ever been rated highly for technical perfection and yet the bowlers find it impossible to dismiss him.  The best thing about him is that Dhoni takes the team home remaining unbeaten at the crease whether he plays the role of nudger or pusher or in the role of better and than in itself is a unparalleled achievement, an achievement which many greats who have attained legendary status in the history of cricket cannot boast of.  The best thing about Dhoni is that the has been holding the number one ranking in one dayers since a very long time.  While it is difficult for a cricket player or for that matter a player from any sport to reach the top, the most difficult thing is to remain at the top because the real pressure gets on to a player when he is under pressure to maintain his top ranking.  Dhoni has done exceptionally well in this regard  considering the fact that it is not easy to handle the pressure for an Indian player, because the expectations of millions of fans and media is very high.

Gautam Gambhir is No.1 Test Batsman in the world:- With Gautam Gambhir reclaiming the number one ranking in Test Matches, it is time for celebration for millions of Indian cricket fans.  In the past players like Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar and Sachin Tendulkar have held the number one spot in Test Rankings and Sachin Tendulkar and company have held the number one spot in ODI rankings, but it is difficult to figure out the last time whether two Indians have held the top spots in One Dayers and Test Matches simultaneously which is exactly what Dhoni and Gambhir have achieved.  Gautam Gambhir is one of those rare Indian cricketers who has been consistent in all formats of the game whether it is Tests, One Dayers or T20s.  All the formats of the game require different temperaments and Gambhir has done exceptionally well to adapt himself to all the formats and more importantly  maintain consistency of the highest order

Apart form having M S Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir at the top of the rankings in One Dayers and Tests there is some for reason for cheer for Indian fans.  India have managed to get to top of rankings for a brief while  in One Dayers when India won the triangular  series defeating Sri Lanka at their backyard and that too happened very recently this year.  Apart from this India have a chance to get the number one ranking in Test Matches should they win the third and final test of the series.

In the past Indian team have been known for individual brilliance of one or two players, but this time around the collective individual brilliance is doing the trick for the team.
