Dealing with mental issues?

In these recent times amidst the pandemic when everyone is suffering a daily battle for survival. The toughest battle is fought inside our’s minds. Some are winning it too and some are failing at it terribly.

“The mind acts like an enemy for those who do not control it.”
— Shri Krishna in Bhagwat Geeta.

perhaps it's true that most toughest and most brutal battle is between you and yourself with anyone having no idea what is going inside someone’s head and life. Like physical health, maintaining mental health is also very important.

As per the World Health Organization, 450 million people currently suffer from a mental illness, and the WHO estimates that two-thirds of individuals suffering from mental illness choose to avoid seeking help for their condition. The reason could be lack of education related to these subjects and fear of what others will think of them. And sometimes it’s all because of money problems.

How we can contribute to society in our own little ways to help others fight these illnesses?

First, we should understand what we meant by mental illnesses, well it could be anything — depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, and many more. It all depends from person to person on a variety of factors and issues he or she may be facing in life like :

  • Biological factors, such as genes or brain chemistry
  • Life experiences, such as trauma, abuse, or stress
  • Family history of mental health problems.

How to tackle the issue?

1. Connect with the people around us or we can say build a relationship.

Don't just be a social media geek, just go out there and maybe take a break from these digital media or social apps. Go with family or friends out for lunch, maybe a picnic or some fun activities to do together. It will help you to build a sense of self-worth, and a positive environment around you.

2. Learn some new skills

Join some classes for learning a new skill that you were planning to do for a long time. It will help in boosting your confidence levels, you could end with a new sense of purpose. It will also act as a medium to interact with other people.

3. Build a fitness regime

“A healthy body means a healthy mind.”

Build a routine to be more fit and healthy. A healthy mind in turn will bring some chemical changes in your body and you will get a positive new vibe.

4. Give more to others

science says that acts of giving and kindness can help improve your mental well-being by creating positive feelings and a sense of reward. Join an NGO or a group which helps others which in turn will help you too.

5. Enjoy the present moment.

yes, enjoy this very moment you are living. Let go of the past and don't stress about the future. just enjoy these very moments in doing things you love with your loved ones.

Last but not the least, learn to admit that you seriously need help. There is no shame in accepting this or asking for help, everybody needs it. Nobody is perfect, learn to admit it.

If needed consult a medical professional, you will be just fine, and if you see anyone struggling with these problems help them too because everyone needs help.

“Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”

means “the world is one family” and we always help the troubled ones in the family.
