It's the faith that matters. Non-believers rubbish such beliefs. There is a saying, "faith moves even mountains." varies from individuals to individuals.

The politicians have blind faith in monks and 'saints' . The orthodox and conservative politicians always have some or the other monk in the back ground. In Russia, there was Rasputin.  Indira gandhi has Dhirendra Brahmachari. It goes to credit of our first P.M. Nehru that he was rational.

Politicians or otherwise, some beliefs in all the classes of Indian society settles in them.  Even the well educated people have such beliefs. Because of the tradition bound of this land.

Each person has his or own belief and its their fundamental right in choosing what they want to believe in.

Sure Kalyani. Having a belief of one's own is not sacrilege as long as the beliefs are not forced on others.
