"Censors should not have an orthodox or conservative outlook, but must be responsible to change and must go with the current climate" the Supreme Court observed in 1989 in the S. Rangaranjan vs P. Jagjivan Ram case. There have been many precedents of such incident where the CBFC's members have barred movies on the basis of political perspective.

One such example is the controversy that surrounded the movie Udta Punjab, which was a film based on awareness of drugs in the state of Punjab. 94 cuts, they even leave the name of a dog. I mean seriously, you are directly violating the right to freedom of creative expression.

You can't make films on caste issues, reservation policies,  religions and a likes. T moment you try and present the dark reality in these country, the politicians feels offended and outraged.

I personally believe that to reject a film or not is the audience choice. And Censors should start recognizing the messages in the movies. Which will surely instill a better future of the movie industry in India ahead.

These days, censor has lost all its value. You can see any type of content on internet by Google search. There is no fantasy that you cannot work on internet.. So Censor needs not be too strict  and its terms should be made more liberal.  All shades of opinion should be respected by censor.

As far as I know Central Board of film censoring must be impartial.

Movie Udta Punjab that was based on Drug addiction in the State of Punjab has been released with 94 cuts seems to be unreasonable.

Such movies will create awareness in the people about the harms of Drug addiction, especially in Youth.

Pahlaj Nihalani , the CBFC Chief was responsible for all this.

The video that he made on PM Modi-- now that is something worth censoring.Grin

One cannot blame Pahlaj Nihlani or for that matter any censor board chief because they go by the rules book or else they may find themselves in legal hurdles. I feel that while censorship is needed , we need to change the age old rules which seem totally out of sync and outdated ..

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

It is a certification board which acts as a censor board. It should certify movies on permitted ratings and accordingly the audience can decide to view it. When Google is uncensored censoring is a joke.

CBFC will not issue a certificate to a movie that contains porn content or any content that damages the culture and tradition of Country.

CBFC is needed so that right kind of Films are exhibited in Public

Today we have the right to criticize it but I am told by my parents that in the late fifties and early sixties it was all about glorifying Nehru and his family on news reels which the entire nation was forced to watch before any film began. This was not done by an individual but by the broadcasting corporation, a governmental body .

So the films like Mastizaade,Boom,Jism2,kya super cool hain hum, and many more as such which are full of vulgarity, cheap comedy and double meaning references are cordially accepted in the society and do not in any way damages or is a threat to our country's rich culture and heritage? Because all these movies were passed and released by the board without a second thought.

Actually the matter of the fact here is not about the sexually explicit content but the politicians or layman trying to play it safe because the movie is about punjabi youth's being addicted to drugs and are victim of drug abuse and they feared that if the movie releases it might offend the punjabi community. But did it really effect the sentiments of the punjabi's? not really. They were brave enough to face the issue and bring about sustainable solutions.

But the main point is ,this is a vital issue and is a matter of concern of not only punjab but our country as a whole. And through films as such we can spread awareness among our youth's and society. Therefore it is high time that our censor board starts recognizing the vital messages present in the movies.

Glorifying the First Prime Minister of newly Independent India was one of the ways of ensuring a stable government. At that time, the priority was to increase the people's trust in their leaders and not jeopardize the feeling of nationalism. But now, it seems irrelevant .

The Movies  you mentioned contain Vulgarity. Such movies cannot be exhibited in Public. Hence CBFC should not issue a Certificate
