We all live in a house. Various kinds of houses are made to suit the climate of the place.

A house protects us from rain, snow, sun, heat, cold, winds and wild animals. It also safeguards our belongings from thieves.
A house is s place where we can reside, work, cook, eat, bathe, study, play and sleep in comfort.

A good house should have adequate supply of sunlight and fresh air. A good house must have walls and a good roof of suitable type suit the climate of the place.
a) Inside a good house
A good house should have rooms for different uses.
1) Sitting room
We sit together, talk or play indoor games, watch TV, display objects of beauty such as statues, paintings, etc. And meet our visitors in the sitting room.
2) Dining
Most dinning rooms have a dinning table. We sit around it on chairs for our meals. A dining room must be well lit. It should be near kitchen. The washbasin should be near the dining room.
In many homes, it is preferred to eat sitting on the floor. The dining space should be kept and clean.
3) Bed room
The room in which we sleep is a bed room.
A bed room should have good ventilation to remove the impure air that is breathed out.
It should have window to all entry of fresh air.
4) Kitchen
It is a place where food is cooked. It should be well lit and well ventilated.
Many a times an exhaust fan is installed in a kitchen to throw out the smoke or unpleasant odors.
5) Bathroom and toilet
The bathroom and toilet should be kept well lit and very clean.
In many houses, the bathroom and is attached to the bed room.
6) Store room
Food grains, row potatoes, onions, extra crockery and cutlery, spare bed sheets, pillows, blankets, etc. are store room.
The store room should be will lit. It should not be moist.
The store room should be cleaned at regular intervals.
7) Other rooms
In many big houses there is a prayer room.
In some houses there is a room called 1the study room’. It is a kind of office room or a home library.
Many houses have a verandah on the ground floor or balconies on the upper floor. These places have roofs are partly open in the sides. People sit here on hot summer days. Children like to play here too.
8) Safe house
All the doors and windows in the house should have proper latches.
The hose should have cupboards to keep our clothes, money, jewelers and important papers safe.
It is useful to have wire screen fitted on the windows to prevent mice, files, cockroaches and mosquitoes from entering the house.
