I think you may be right but I am not sure that BPO is responsible for this......

BPO alone is not responsible for the growth of pub culture!! It is true that the BPO employees are free entry passes to pubs as part of their incentives and performance bonuses, but it is equally true that with the rising growth of people with high-end salaries, such people form a major part of any pub's clientele! A major portion of people visiting pubs is also the students who get enormous amounts of pocket money. Same goes for people who work in the IT industry!

So baming only teh BPO sector is not fair.

I agree with Kalyani. More work and more salary give you reason and need for spending on wine and visiting pub. When you work to the best of your capacity, you need relaxation. Wine gives relaxation. You have money for this expense.

Secondly, wine is part of every culture. Each area of our country has distinct brand of wine- Chhang in ladakh, Mahua in Bihar. Tari is also a form of liqueur. In Jharkhand, tribals take home made rice beer.

I don't think it is growing because of BPO only.It has become fashionable in the upwardly mobile section of our population to take to this.
